Missed our event? No worries!

On February 5th, Startup Carinthia, in collaboration with the Wirtschaftskammer Kärnten (WKO), SEE:port, OWASP, Red Hat, and the Software Internet Cluster (SIC), hosted ‘Inspired by AI – Shaping the Future.’ It was an evening packed with insights, discussions, and networking opportunities focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a driving force for innovation in Carinthia.

If you couldn’t make it, here’s your chance to catch up!
We used cutting-edge AI tools, including xamoom’s transcription service and NotebookLM’s AI-Powered Audio Overviews, to generate dynamic summaries of the event’s key discussions. This is an experimental feature, Audio overviews (including the voices) are AI-generated, so there might be inaccuracies and audio glitches. It’s not perfect, but still mind-blowing cool!

Key Takeaways from the Event

We kicked things off with a thought-provoking keynote speech by Matthias Rettl from Red Hat, who shed light on Red Hat’s open-source development model and AI platforms. He clarified how Red Hat thrives on subscriptions rather than software licenses, emphasizing transparency and collaboration in AI development.

The Panel Discussion: AI’s Future in Carinthia

Our panel discussion covered three vital aspects:

  1. AI’s societal impact
  2. How AI is shaping Carinthia’s economy and startup ecosystem
  3. How startups and large corporations can collaborate for AI-driven innovation

The conversation explored the challenges and opportunities of AI, including responsible AI development and regulation, particularly with the upcoming EU AI Act. Our experts debated the fine balance between fostering innovation and establishing necessary regulations.

Expert Insights You Shouldn’t Miss

The panel featured a diverse set of AI thought leaders, including Matthias Rettl, Michaela Weissensteiner, and Stephan Kraft from Red Hat, who elaborated on the transformative potential of Open Source AI in business. Otmar Petschnig, head of the economic policy advisory council of Carinthia stressed the importance of collaboration between startups and established companies.

Skillfully moderated by Alex Mann and Bernd Buchegger, the discussion also tackled one of Carinthia’s major challenges: brain drain. Could AI be the key to retaining top talent and positioning Carinthia as a leading innovation hub? Our experts had plenty to say!

Next Steps: AI in Carinthia and Beyond

The event left us with a clear message: Carinthia must seize the opportunities AI presents to remain competitive in innovation and economic development. This requires cooperation between business, science, and politics—alongside a strong commitment to ethical AI practices.
